David Gordon Green Goes Eastbound & Down

Relief Pitcher Kenny Powers was poised to rule the Big Leagues, but two things got in the way: his fading fastball and his insufferable personality. After a spectacular career flame-out, Kenny came home to Shelby County, NC and picked up a job as a substitute gym teacher (mostly so his brother Dustin would stop threatening to kick him out). He's spent every moment since then cashing in the last of his dying fame while plotting his inevitable comeback... one beer at a time.
Will Ferrell’s company, Gary Sanchez Productions, is producing the six-episode season for HBO, and Green trades off directing duties with Jody Hill and Adam McKay.

Alex Gibney's Gonzo - The New York Times Review
The A.O. Scott review of Alex Gibney’s latest film, Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, is in, and it is a good one. He writes:
Gonzo, Thompson’s symbol for which was a two-thumbed fist clutching a peyote button, denotes a drug-fueled, madcap libertarianism, a pursuit of freedom to the very edge of good sense and beyond. But as Thompson first used the word, gonzo was an aurally suggestive, semantically vague adjective, and the noun it modified was, above all, journalist. And it is to Mr. Gibney’s great credit that while he pays due attention to the outsize, cartoonish celebrity persona Thompson fell back on when his literary powers began to wane, this film concentrates on the bold, innovative journalism that secured Thompson’s reputation and assures his immortality.

David Gordon Green's Summer Smash Pineapple Express
The latest feature from David Gordon Green is, shall we say, a departure from his previous films, but shows the equally talented comedic side of the director. A classic buddy comedy with a stoner edge, the story follows Dale Denton and Saul Silver on the run from a vicious drug dealer after Dale (played by Seth Rogan) witnesses a murder. Chelsea favorite James Franco plays Saul, a return to comedy for Franco and a character similar to his much-loved Daniel Desario from Freaks and Geeks. Check out the trailer and get ready for an August 6th release!
